After plenty of consideration among his offers, the Penn State football staff has landed one of the top players within their own state.
Dayshaun Burnett, a 2025 four-star linebacker from Pittsburgh, has announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions after receiving heavy interest from Michigan. The commitment from Burnett now brings the Penn State football recruiting class in 2025 up to sixth overall. Burnett is currently ranked as the 13th recruit in the state of Pennsylvania and the 39th overall linebacker.
Penn State Football Lands Tenth Hard Commitment for 2025 With Dayshaun Burnett Announcement
The versatile athlete Dayshaun Burnett has done just about everything thus far in his High School career. The four-star 2025 linebacker has also spent time playing as a safety and defensive end, while also playing quarterback and running back on offense. Burnett was a successful quarterback as well, recording 1012 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and three rush touchdowns during his lone season of play at the position.
Burnett played this past season in multiple positions on the offense, including a stint as the starting quarterback following an injury. The talented athlete recorded over 500 yards passing, 300 yards rushing, and nearly 100 yards receiving along with a dozen receptions.
On the defensive side of the ball, Burnett has proved himself to be a tenacious rusher recording three sacks and 12 tackles for loss. The versatility of Burnett is something that has fascinated both Penn State football and plenty of other programs as well.
The Impact: How Can Burnett Help the Penn State Nittany Lions Immediately?
If there is one sure thing about the future for Burnett with Penn State football, it is that the talented player will find his way onto the field easily. Burnett offers a different level of dynamic athleticism that very few players possess, and with his abilities in mind it is difficult to leave the linebacker off the field. Most likely, the fastest route for Burnett to hit the field will come as a hybrid linebacker/safety due to his speed for the position.
At 6-foot-3-inches, 215-pounds, Burnett has an incredible balance between speed, size, and strength. The linebacker could certainly find a way to benefit the Penn State football defense after his Senior year of High School.
Penn State Football Hoping to Continue Hot Recruiting Run
The Penn State Nittany Lions football staff has been on an exceptional recruiting run as of late, which they hope to continue. The Nittany Lions have landed three commitments in their 2025 recruiting class already this year, including the commitment of Burnett. Along with their 2025 commitments, the Nittany Lions have also added massive transfer commitments from their Big Ten Conference rivals.
Wisconsin football veteran Nolan Rucci announced his transfer to the Nittany Lions after struggling through a 7-5 season. Along with Rucci, Ohio State standout Julian Fleming also announced his transfer to the Nittany Lions, joining a potentially strong offense.
