On September 18th, 2023, the Kansas City Chiefs and their star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, reached an agreement to restructure their contract. Mahomes will now make $210.6 million between 2023 and 2026, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history over a four-year span.

The Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes have restructured his agreement, giving him $210.6 million between 2023 and 2026, the most money in NFL history over a four season span. His compensation for those years is now guaranteed. Also, the Chiefs and Mahomes plan to re-visit the agreement… pic.twitter.com/7a2vlt9Si2

Mahomes and the Chiefs also confirmed that they plan to revisit the agreement once again in 2026. This new deal means Mahomes will have another opportunity to get an even bigger payday as quarterback contracts continue to soar to new heights. In 2020, Patrick Mahomes agreed to a 10-year, $450 million extension with Kansas City, which would be good until the 2031 season.

    Patrick Mahomes’ Impact

There is no doubt that the presence of Patrick Mahomes has put Kansas City on the NFL world map. So far in his 7-year career as a starter, Mahomes has amounted to 24,772 passing yards, 196 touchdowns, and a passer rating of 105.2. These numbers are ridiculous over a 7-year span, cementing him as one of the greatest to ever play the position.

This new deal with the Chiefs is set to increase the contracts of other star quarterbacks around the league. However, it is easy to assume that Patrick Mahomes will always be worth the most money out of anyone else in the league because of his exceptional play. With this new contract agreement now in place, NFL fans will have to deal with hearing the name “Patrick Mahomes” for a very long time.
