The New York Jets are getting ready for one of their most anticipated games of the season against the New York Giants. They look to come out on top in this local rivalry on Sunday deemed as the “MetLife Bowl.”
Jets fans will be happy to know that two key players in the secondary will be available for Sunday’s game. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is reporting that head coach Robert Saleh said both CBs Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed have cleared concussion protocol and will be available for Sunday’s game.
What This Means
It means that an already talented defense just got deeper. The Jets were without both Gardner and Reed two weeks ago against the Philadelphia Eagles. Yet, the defense allowed just 14 points and handed the Eagles their first loss of the season.
Last year, Gardner was named the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and for good reason. He had two interceptions and 51 solo tackles.
While he has not quite put up the same numbers in 2023, most teams have elected to try to stay away from his side of the field whenever possible. Still, he does have a forced fumble this season.
As for DJ Reed, he does have 22 tackles through four games in this 2023 season.
New York Jets Defense
Even without this defense being fully healthy, this Jets defense has put up some good numbers. The secondary alone is third in the NFL with eight interceptions.
They allow just over 216 passing yards per game and give up fewer than 20 points per game. Considering that they are going up against the lowest-scoring offense in the NFL, there is a good chance that this will continue on Sunday.
Betting Implications
So, has this news about Gardner and Reed changed the betting implications? As of now, most lines and odds for this game have remained the same.
Most sportsbooks have the New York Jets as 3-point favorites. The Over/Under is one of the lowest totals on the board this week at 36.5.
