The New England Patriots suffered another loss against AFC East division rival Buffalo Bills in a season to forget for the Patriots. While the Patriots kept the game close they predictably lost in the end falling to 4-12 on the season, one of the worst years in the Bill Belichick era.
As things go from bad to worse, lineman Trent Brown has been vocal about his issues with the team ahead of his free agency this off season. Brown was quoted ahead of the game against the Bills saying:
“It’d be kind of like, I feel like I’d be kind of doing myself a disservice to not see what other opportunities are out there, just at this point.”
Clearly Brown has not had the best time with the Patriots, but everyone knows it is not the Patriot Way to speak out against the team, especially in the middle of the season with games still to play. New England, specifically head coach Bill Belichick returned the favor this week.
New England Patriots Screw Trent Brown
According to reports before the game, Trent Brown was a healthy scratch for the game against the Bills. A healthy scratch is nothing to crazy, except this will now cost Brown 6.5 million dollars in playing incentives. Belichick clearly does not want Brown to get the bonus as he made sure of it by not allowing him to play, and we can safely assume Brown will not suit up for the last game either.
Perhaps this is one of the reasons that many free agents are not dying to come play for Belichick. While the NFL is a business this does not look good for players that may think about coming to play in New England in the future. Brown should also be heading out in free agency as I’m sure he is not too happy abut missing 6.5 million dollars in bonuses for being a healthy scratch.
On the other hand, Belichick plays the players that want to play and that give them the best opportunity to win games. Brown has not been playing his best football and has not been showing effort in previous weeks.
