Justin Pugh, a New York Giants first-round pick back in the 2013 NFL Draft, returned to Big Blue as an emergency lineman in Week 6. He started at left guard before another injury forced him to move to left tackle. On Wednesday afternoon, the Giants announced that they’ve officially signed him to the active roster. In the move, New York waived tight end Lawrence Cager.

Where Justin Pugh Fits Into Giants’ Plans
New York’s offensive line has been bad all season. While Justin Pugh wasn’t incredible, allowing two sacks and three pressures, he was better than most of their other linemen throughout the season. He brings 11 years of experience to the table between his time in Arizona and two stints with the Giants. With the ability to play guard and tackle for a team desperately seeking answers anywhere, New York needs Pugh right now. Don’t be surprised to see him on the field every week moving forward.

What About Lawrence Cager
Joining New York midway through the 2022 season, Cager enjoyed his most success catching passes in the NFC East. Last year, he filled in admirably when Daniel Bellinger went down, was seen frequently run blocking, and caught his only career touchdown. With Darren Waller joining the fold, Lawrence Cager’s usage dipped significantly. If he clears waivers, Cager will probably be back with New York. He’s been a great depth piece that knows the playbook, along with an enjoyable presence in the locker room. Unfortunately, he was a casualty of New York’s roster needs.
