The Florida State Seminoles are continuing to build their roster under Mike Norvell for 2024 and it appears they are targeting former Alabama Crimson Tide players to build the No. 5 class in transfer portal commits according to 24/7 Sports.
Norvell has a reputation for landing top tier talent in the transfer portal and the Seminoles have made significant moves so far this offseason to build a team that can compete for a national title next season.
The Seminoles signed their 2024 starting quarterback out of the portal recently with the acquisition of former Clemson and Oregon State star D.J. Uiagalelei. Florida State was in the mix for Washington State’s Cameron Ward, but moved on from him after it became clear a potential entry into the 2024 NFL Draft was where he was leaning. They also landed a major commitment from Alabama Crimson Tide wideout Malik Benson gives Uiagalelei a potentially-feared target on the outside following several draft departures at the position in Tallahassee.
“I am fired up to have Malik joining our program,” Florida State Seminoles head coach Norvell said, via Noles247. “He’s an explosive playmaker who brings elite-level speed and quickness to the receiver position. Malik was one of the top players in the country coming out of junior college and he showcased a tremendous skillset as a starter for a Power 5 conference champion. His attributes on film will be showcased at a high level here with our offense as he is primed to take the next step in his career here at Florida State.”
Earlier this week, it was announced that the Florida State would have two of the top available uncommitted transfer portal players on campus this weekend.
Florida State Seminoles Land Alabama Crimson Tide Transfer Roydell Williams
On3 reported Alabama transfer running back Roydell Williams and Florida transfer offensive lineman Richie Leonard will be in Tallahassee this weekend.
With so many key players gone from this year’s talented Florida State team, Norvell and the coaching staff have been aggressive to fill holes at key positions. They have already locked down a starting QB and WR, but with their talented running back Trey Benson declaring for the NFL Draft, FSU needs to fill a void in the backfield.
On Saturday, they did just that.
According to 24/7 Sports. Alabama Crimson Tide transfer RB Roydell Williams has committed to the FLorida State Seminoles.
A top-10 running back in the 2020 class, Williams has played in 45 career games rushing for more than 1,100 yards. He tallied 111 carries this season, finishing with a career-high 560 yards with five touchdowns.
Williams, who is originally from Hueytown, Ala. and attended Hueytown High School, became an immediate target for the Seminoles when he entered the transfer portal last Friday. The Seminoles have added versatile athlete Jaylin Lucas, a transfer from Indiana, and he is listed as a running back, but the 5-foot-10, 214-pound Williams provides a different skillset that the Seminoles would like to add to their running back room.
Landing Leonard would be a crucial pickup for the Seminoles but there’s still no official decision from the Florida big man. The Seminoles have prioritized the line of scrimmage in the transfer portal and have signed key players on both the offensive and defensive line. The Florida transfer has appeared in 31 games over the past three years with 14 starts.
The Florida State Seminoles also scored a big win earlier this week when linebacker DJ Lundy withdrew from the transfer portal and decommitted from Colorado. He became a key player on the Seminoles’ defense this past season, tallying 54 tackles with six tackles for loss and two sacks.
With Nick Saban retiring, more Alabama Crimson Tide players are bailing for the portal. Expect Norvell and FSU to take a hard look at every single one.
