The Baltimore Ravens came up short in the AFC Championship, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs 17-10. Unfortunately, for rookie WR Zay Flowers, a lot of the blame is falling on him. Flowers made two crucial errors in the game that likely cost the Ravens any chance at the AFC Championship.
Zay Flowers’ Errors
There were two notable errors by Flowers in this game. The first one came after a big completion that would have had the Baltimore Ravens on the Kansas City Chiefs’ 9-yard line. However, after a big gain, Flowers was called for a taunting penalty. This cost the Ravens 15 yards.
Fortunately, Baltimore got that yardage back almost immediately. Unfortunately, a more critical occurred after this. On that same drive, Flowers attempted to dive for a touchdown. However, he was instead stripped of the football at the 1-yard line. The Chiefs recovered the fumble in the endzone, resulting in a touchback.
This would have likely made it a 17-14 game. Instead, the Chiefs retained a 10-point game and won the AFC Championship by a final score of 17-10. In other words, this likely touchdown turned fumble ended up being the difference in this game.
Fans React
Some fans were not happy with the way Flowers played in this game. Many pinned the blame on him for Baltimore’s loss. Here are some of the most notable comments:
“Life comes at you fast.”
“Zay Flowers playing hero ball cost the team. Should’ve been 17-14, then 17-17. Not all his fault but Zay absolutely destroyed all momentum for the Ravens all in a single drive.”
“Get ready to learn XFLese buddy.”
“Zay gettin it in the locker room.”
“Flowers sold.”
“That fumble was devastating! So many mental mistakes today. Let Kelce and the other players talking get in their heads! Hopefully yall can get back to the big game one day but that might’ve been the best chance!”
“Zay Flowers is quickly establishing himself among the NFL’s all-time clowns.”
Baltimore Ravens Moving Forward
Zay Flowers has only played one season in the NFL. It is a shame that this will likely overshadow his fantastic rookie season. However, he will likely learn from this.
The Baltimore Ravens will now have to try to run it back with him in 2024. If there is anything we learned today, it is that the Kansas City Chiefs make this easier said than done.
