It was no secret that Baker Mayfield wanted out of Cleveland.
After the Browns signed Deshaun Watson to a huge contract, Mayfield demanded a trade and he got his wish.
Now that Baker is gone and Watson could be facing a lengthy suspension, who will be the Browns’ quarterback in 2022? Three possibilities are Deshaun Watson, Jacoby Brissett, and Joshua Dobbs.
Deshaun Watson
Watson would usually be the starting quarterback for the Browns, but he may not play for them at all this year.
After being accused of sexual assault and misconduct by 24 women, the Browns signed Watson to a five-year, $230 million contract, and is now facing a possible suspension by the NFL.
Watson previously played for the Texans where he had a solid four-year career there. He threw 104 touchdowns and threw for 14,539 yards in total.
It would be a longshot for Watson to not be suspended at all, but some think he won’t be suspended.
Including Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, he said “I’m not going to be surprised if he’s not suspended at all,” in this segment of Pro Football Talk.
Jacoby Brissett
Jacoby Brissett seems to be the favorite on who people think will be starting for the Browns in week one.
Brissett is the second-string quarterback of the Cleveland Browns behind Deshaun Watson, but he may be the first-string this season.
Brissett has had a solid career with the Patriots, Colts, and Dolphins. In his six years, he has thrown 36 touchdowns on 7,732 yards.
At least Brissett actually has experience being a starter, so he could be solid for the Browns.
Joshua Dobbs
This is probably the most unlikely scenario for the Browns. Dobbs probably won’t be the starter unless Watson is suspended or Brissett gets injured during training camp.
There isn’t much information for Dobbs other than that he came out of Tennessee and he has played in six NFL games with the Steelers. In those six games, Dobbs has thrown for 45 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception.
Dobbs doesn’t have much experience in the NFL, so it would be hard to believe he will be the starter with Brissett there.
So Who Will Most Likely Start For the Browns in Week One?
The most likely is probably Jacoby Brissett. But, the possibility of Deshaun Watson starting in week one for the Browns is a fascinating idea, though. If Watson is the starter, he will be facing Baker Mayfield and the Carolina Panthers in week one.
