The road to the Florida Beach Bowl will pit the Johnson C Smith Golden Bulls (7-3) (6-2) from the CIAA conference and the Fort Valley State Wildcats (7-3) (6-2) from SIAC conference, The CIAA and the SIAC will play in a bowl game for the first time since 2012. The 34th Southern Heritage Classic is taking place in neutral site Memphis, TN, between the Tennessee State Tigers (1-1) of the Ohio Valley Conference and Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions (0-2) of the SWAC. The TSU Tigers come into the game after a tough season-opening defeat against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a 3-56 loss a week ago. This was an early season matchup of the top two teams in the SWAC East Division from the past two years. The Jackson State Tigers came in riding high off a 37-7 win against the South Carolina State Bulldogs to open the season last week. This would be the Florida A&M Rattlers’ first game of the season. The reigning two-time SWAC Champions returned to action on a mission against the South Carolina State Bulldogs. The Jackson State Tigers took the field for the first time in a couple of years without Coach Prime who moved on to coach the Colorado Buffaloes of the PAC-12 Conference. It has been a terrific season and what a game between two great champions. This was the first time that the game went into overtime. The SWAC Champion Jackson State Tigers battled hard against the MEAC Champion the North Carolina Central Eagles all the way down to the wire. The win by the North Carolina Central Eagles marks the first win for the MEAC Champions bringing the overall record to 6-1 against the SWAC and avenging their loss in 2016. The Celebration Bowl is in its seventh year and what Jackson State is attempting to do is to be the second team from the SWAC to win the Celebration Bowl. The North Carolina Central Eagles are attempting to win their first Celebration Bowl game in their second appearance from the MEAC. The Celebration Bowl is an FCS Bowl game between the Southwest Athletic Conference (SWAC) and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The only question that was left in the 2022 SIAC football season was, will the Benedict College Tigers remain perfect and go to 11-0? The SIAC Championship took place on November 12th 2022 at the home of the undefeated Eastern Division Champions the Benedict College Tigers (11-0).
