It’s the end of an era for the New England Patriots. Longtime Patriots special teams ace and team captain Matthew Slater announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday in an essay he penned for the team’s website. He thoughtfully saluted his father, Pro Football Hall of Fame offensive tackle Jackie Slater, as a longtime inspiration, dating back to summers spent in Meridian, Miss., as a youth. For as long as I can remember, football has been one of the passions of my heart. Some of my earliest memories of the game are of watching my dad prepare for training camp with the Los…

The New York Jets learned their lesson the hard way last season when they bet all their chips on Aaron Rodgers without having any real plan if their new franchise QB got hurt. Obviously everyone knows how that ended up. The Jets looked like they’d be a very solid contender before the season began and many believed they could contend for a Super Bowl. But, just four plays into the season, starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down with a season-ending Achilles injury. The New York  Jets never really recovered from that, and both Wilson and Tim Boyle tried to lead…

The Atlanta Falcons are going to do everything possible to secure their franchise QB this offseason, according to general manager Terry Fontenot. The arrival of head coach Raheem Morris doesn’t figure to be the only sign of change in Atlanta this upcoming season. Terry Fontenot is gearing up for the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine and the official start of free agency on March 13. During an appearance on *The NFL Report* last week, the Falcons general manager said the club will be keying in on the quarterback position during the 2024 offseason. The only remaining question is which route the…

Alabama Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer has had a roller coaster in trying to build a coaching staff to keep the program atop of the college football hierarchy since taking over from Nick Saban. So far, the former Huskies coach has solidified his two top coordinators. DeBoer thought he hit a home run by initially hiring  Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.  Grubb is coming off his second season with Washington after spending five seasons with Fresno State. In 2022, the Huskies averaged 515.8 yards per game, second to Tennessee in the country, and 39.7 points per game, which was seventh…

The Philadelphia Eagles are heading into a season with plenty of pressure considering how the end of 2023 panned out. The Eagles, and general manager Howie Roseman, have never been shy about spending big to fill big holes on the roster, and this offseason might not be any different. After watching the secondary regress dramatically over the second half of the 2023 season, including a postseason loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that was marred by poor tackling in the secondary, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Roseman take some big swings to overhaul Philadelphia’s cornerback room. Roseman is nothing…

The Pittsburgh Steelers have everything in place to chase a championship, except the most important player on any NFL team. Mike Tomlin and company haven’t figured out what to do at the starting quarterback position. They have already moved on from Mitch Trubisky, who was released last week in a move that will save the Steelers $11.5 million in real money over the next two seasons. Trubisky never stood a chance with the Steelers. Six weeks after he was signed to a two-year, $14.3 million contract in free agency in March 2022, the Steelers took Kenny Pickett with their No.…

The Dallas Cowboys are going through a lot of changes, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The Cowboys will be seeing their former defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn, twice a year with the Washington Commanders for the foreseeable future as the team’s rival hired him as their head coach. He also brought secondary coach/passing game coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. as Washington’s new defensive coordinator. Quinn  played a vital role in turning around a Cowboys defense that gave up 29.6 points per game in 2020. In the time that he was the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator, the defense finished top 10…
