Last weekend, Auburn football played a tough second half against the Kentucky Wildcats, rallying for a 24-10 and securing their first win in the SEC. However, following a massive win in conference play, the Auburn Tigers took an enormous step backward on Saturday, losing at home to the Vanderbilt Commodores 17-7. With the loss, head coach Hugh Freeze moves to 0-3 against Vandy quarterback Diego Pavia, dating back to the signal-caller’s tenure with the New Mexico State Aggies.
More notably, Freeze is now 9-13 with Auburn football, one more loss than his predecessor Bryan Harsin had through 21 games. Auburn entered the home game against Vandy as more than a touchdown favorite, leaving fans clamoring for change at the once-SEC power.

This weekend, Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia pulled off the trifecta, beating Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze for the third time in as many tries. In the last two attempts, Freeze was the leadman with the Auburn Tigers, with Pavia’s school winning by a combined score of 48-17. Pavia made the most of his opportunities in this Saturday’s tilt, going 9-of-22 for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Auburn failed to score in the second half against a Vanderbilt team that allows over 350 yards per contest.
The fallout of Auburn’s loss pushes Freeze to 4-10 against SEC competition, and with the team sitting at 3-6, they are likely to miss bowl eligibility for the second time in three seasons. With Freeze using poor clock management late in the contest, electing for a long field goal with a struggling kicker, and continuing to play musical chairs with the quarterback position, many fans believe this could be the last season for the bench boss with Auburn football. The Tigers also didn’t complete a pass in the second or third quarters.
