The Atlanta Falcons have been making several changes to their team this offseason including the signing of new head coach Raheem Morris. Morris has stated that the team can be a playoff contender if they have better quarterback play on offense, which has led to rumors that they will sign Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields this offseason. However, the team revealed that it is targeting a different quarterback over Fields and that the rumors regarding the Bears quarterback coming to Atlanta have been “overblown.”
Atlanta Falcons Targeting Star Quarterback
According to NFL insiders, the Falcons prefer targeting Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins over Fields in free agency this offseason. Cousins is set to test out the open market this month as he and the Vikings have not been able to agree on a contract, which could lead to Atlanta offering him a good enough contract to cause the veteran quarterback to leave Minnesota.

Justin Fields Landing Spot
Many analysts have had Fields going to the Falcons since Chicago secured the number one pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and many believe they will select USC quarterback Caleb Williams. There has been some talk, however, of the Bears potentially trading the number one pick to pick up some weapons in free agency which would mean they would retain Fields as their quarterback.
The market for Justin Fields isn’t as strong as many believe. Bears might not get the package they are expecting.
Another team that could be interested in the Bears quarterback is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who many believe need to address the quarterback room, especially after the release of Mitchell Trubisky, and the mediocre play of Kenny Pickett. Fields could be the answer Pittsburgh is looking for to have offensive success, especially with the weapons that would be at his disposal like George Pickens and Diontae Johnson.
Kirk Cousins Landing Spot
While Cousins has stated in the past that he would like to remain in Minnesota, if a team like the Falcons gives him a good enough contract that the Vikings aren’t willing to spend, he could end up in Atlanta in 2024. That would leave an opening for the Vikings’ starting quarterback job, which the team could go and sign a veteran like Russell Wilson, who will in all likelihood be on the move in 2024.
There are still a lot of unknowns as free agency inches closer, with many big decisions up in the air for players and teams. Do you think that the Falcons will end up with Cousins in 2024, and where will Fields be playing?
