The Atlanta Falcons signed a top defensive end
The Atlanta Falcons made some moves this offseason to put the team in a position to win a weak NFC South. The Falcons are entrusting the offense to second-year quarterback Desmond Ridder. With free agents seeing questions on that side of the ball, it was unclear if the Falcons could bring in top talent on defense this offseason. The Falcons got a boost when they signed All-Pro defensive end Calais Campbell.
Campbell recently explained why he joined the Falcons. According to a video posted on the Falcons’ website, Campbell said he bought into head coach Arthur Smith’s pitch for the Falcons’ future:
“I really liked [Smith’s] vision for the team. I really thought he had a great game plan for where the team is at right now and where it’s going, and I really feel like that’s gonna surprise a lot of people this year. This team’s gonna be a very competitive, tough team that’ll win a lot of ballgames.”
The Falcons could be a surprise team in 2023. If Ridder can prove he’s the Falcons’ franchise quarterback, they should have a chance to win the NFC South. Campbell should help solidify the defensive pass rush.
