The Arizona Cardinals found an absolute gem in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, selecting tight end Trey McBride with the 55th overall pick. McBride has developed into one of the best tight ends and has gotten better in each of his first three seasons in the league, and his 2,236 receiving yards is the fourth most by a tight end since 2022. He boasted career highs in receptions, targets, and yards, with 111 receptions on 147 targets for 1,146 yards and two touchdowns, earning him his first Pro Bowl selection.

Trey McBride enters the final year of his 4-year, $6,299,662 rookie contract, which he signed during the 2022 offseason. Due to the Proven Performance Escalator, which awards second to seventh-round picks for playing a significant amount of time or making it to a Pro Bowl, he is set to earn a $5,265,000 base salary along with a $5,705,393 cap hit for 2025. Finally, since he completed his third regular season, McBride is eligible to renegotiate or sign a contract extension immediately per Article 7, Section 3 (k) (i) of the CBA.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Arizona Cardinals are looking to extend Trey McBride this offseason. As Fowler points out, the tight-end market is currently stuck between the $15 to $17 million range for quite some time. However, he believes McBride will break the bank and sign a lucrative contract extension, which would make him one of the highest-paid players at the position.
“The Cardinals hope to re-sign star tight end Trey McBride this offseason,” Fowler said. “The TE market has been stuck in that $15-$17 million per-year range for a while now, but perhaps McBride can change that with 192 catches since 2023.”
