The Atlanta Falcons made arguably the biggest acquisition of the offseason so far. They signed QB Kirk Cousins, seemingly answering the question of who their starting quarterback will be moving forward. Now, the Falcons are apparently putting an exclamation point on this by trading their former starter. Read below to find out more.
Desmond Ridder Expected to be Traded to Arizona Cardinals
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Desmond Ridder is being traded to the Arizona Cardinals. In an interesting exchange, the Falcons are getting WR Rondale Moore in return. So, the Falcons are getting another weapon for Cousins while Ridder gets to have a fresh start.
Arizona Cardinals Moving Forward
Ridder is unlikely to be the starter in Arizona. That is because they already have Kyler Murray at the position. Despite missing half of 2023, Murray showed he still had something left to offer the Cardinals moving forward. As for Ridder, let’s just say he could not even hang onto the starting quarterback job when his competition was Taylor Heinicke.
Now, Ridder is likely going to be the backup quarterback for the Cardinals. However, this does not mean his career is over. If Murray gets hurt again or he underperforms, Ridder may get the opening he needs to revitalize his career.
