The season is here! With that comes everyone’s favorite, fantasy football. I thought it would be fun/funny to draft an All Steelers Fantasy team. This will be a short series tracking my team and seeing how they stand up against the rest of the league. The funniest part about all of this, everyone has the same bye week. So at least one week will be a guaranteed L. That’s okay though, I am here for a good time not a long time. So without further a due here is my fantasy team.
QB
I drafted both Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett. So, if Mitch does get injured or has poor play that sets up the rookie to take over I am covered. They are both mobile quarterbacks who will gain rush yards on top of passing and I expect both to throw a good amount of touchdowns and squeeze in a rushing touchdown here and there. Overall the quarterback in ppr leagues is not really the focal point anyways so I always just focus on possession players.
RB
In comes the greatest running back duo of all time Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren. (kidding) But I also even snagged up Benny Snell. I picked sixth overall and Najee was there thankfully. Najee is the bell cow and arguably the most important part of the Steelers offense. I expect him to be a top 6 running back in fantasy and will be the anchor of my team. I expect Warren to come in here and there on some goal line possessions as well as screen plays. Overall I will be lucky to get 5 points out of Warren on a weekly basis. But hey, I am here for the long haul with the Jaylen Warren hype train. Snell is just there because I needed a full roster and expect zero from him.
WR
Diontae Johnson is a top 15 WR in fantasy so not too worried there. Claypool has been very streaky for fantasy in his short career. The good thing however, I expect the passing attack to be more efficient. With Claypool lined up in the slot this season per sources and has had a great camp thus far I expect more consistent fantasy output. By no means do I expect him to light it up for me but hey I can dream. The final starter at the position is obviously going to be George Pickens. I expect some halfway decent production out of him as an unknown guy at this point who will man the outside. He has broke out a big play in every single practice and looks pretty dominant. Could he be a diamond in the rough? Sure hope so!
TE
The obvious choice here was Zach Gentry. Just kidding, obviously I picked up big Muth. I think with the Steelers specifically making it a point to attack the middle of the field this year Pat Freiermuth will have a great season. With very rough offensive showing last year he still managed to put up 500 yards. I can definitely see a break out year on the horizon just simply for two reasons. More mobile quarterbacks who will extend the play and attacking the middle more often. In addition I grabbed Conner Heyward. I mean its an all Steelers team so I am not expecting a whole lot out of this team. However, the team used him quite a bit in preseason and he could be featured in some gadget plays here and there. What’s there to lose at this point?
K
I jumped a little bit on this pick. For whatever reason people in this random league were picking up kickers pretty early so I had to snag the second best kicker in the league Chris Boswell. Year in and year out he is a productive fantasy kicker putting up about 10 points a game. Not really much more to say around the kicker position.
DEF
This is a no brainer. The Steelers have led the league in sack the last five years and are looking to go for the a sixth. The run defense should be improved this year and they have one of the better special teams units in the NFL. I am expecting about 10 points a game and maybe a couple explosive games as they did last year.
Conclusion
By no means do I expect this team to be a threat but, I think it will be a fun season for this team. I am purely doing this on a content stand point but just maybe…. I could have a decent squad and make a run. Each week during the season I will do a recap of how the team performs. I will include the game score as well as go over break out performances each week. Follow along on this crazy and pointless journey!
As always thank you for reading! You can always find great Steelers content here on the Gridiron Heroics.
