REPORT: AJ Brown Fires Back at Jalen Hurts Illness Narrative After Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 15 Loss

AJ Brown is not making any excuses amid the Philadelphia Eagles’ losing skid. So, the last thing he wants to hear is that Jalen Hurts’ illness in Week 15 had a massive impact on their loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

For those unaware, Hurts’ status for Week 15 was a huge question mark after he dealt with flu-like symptoms. He even had to fly separately from the team, raising more concerns about his availability for the game.

However, Hurts fought through the health issue and started for the Eagles. Despite his presence, though, Philadelphia’s skid continued as the team fell to the Seahawks 20-17. Making matters worse, Drew Lock–who  was starting for Seattle amid the groin injury of QB1 Geno Smith–outshined Hurts in the showdown.

Hurts threw two interceptions in the contest and completed just 17 of his 31 passes for 143 yards. He also didn’t record a touchdown. Meanwhile, Lock went 22-of-33 for 208 yards and the game-winning TD pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

The 25-year-old Hurts was heavily criticized for his performance, but many also came to his defense and theorized that his illness played a role in his poor display. There was just no way he would be 100 percent after such a short turnaround between the game and his illness.

AJ Brown, for his part, is not having that conversation, though. He doesn’t want to hear any excuses. For him, they simply didn’t do enough, plain and simple. They have to take accountability of that and make sure to work on their mistakes.

“That ain’t no excuse. We on the field, we playing. What goes on through the week, don’t nobody care about what goes on with us through the week,” the Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver said when asked about Hurts’ illness and how it might have affected the QB’s performance, via Heavy.

“Don’t nobody [care] about that s**t. We gotta play. I’m not making no excuses, so there shouldn’t none be made.”

Brown certainly couldn’t have said it any better. At the end of the day, they can’t make such excuses, especially since they were actually ahead of the Seahawks up until the final 30 seconds of play.

Jalen Hurts Not Making Excuses, But Has Harsh Message for Philadelphia Eagles

For what it’s worth, Jalen Hurts himself did not use his illness as an excuse for his poor play. After their ugly loss on Monday, Hurts was asked about his condition and simply highlighted that it’s irrelevant at that point.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback noted that he just didn’t play good enough, that’s all, per Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP.

Nonetheless, Hurts also made some intriguing comments  about the Eagles’ overall performance, seemingly calling out the whole team for their lack of “commitment” to improving their execution problems.

“I’ve been talking about execution all year and being on the same page.” Hurts shared. “We didn’t execute.  I don’t think we’re committed enough and we’ve just got to turn it around.  It’s a challenge that we have to embrace and just continue to see it through.”

It remains to be seen how AJ Brown and the rest of the Eagles will respond to that message. Hopefully, it yields a positive reaction and good results for the team.
