New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one of the most polarizing figures in all of sports. This is especially true when it comes to politics, as the future Pro Football Hall of Famer has made some controversial statements regarding various political leaders, both American and international, in the past.

It was not even a year ago that there was speculation that he himself could enter the political ring. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., at one point, considered asking the Jets quarterback to be his running mate in his Presidential race. Of course, Kennedy did not pick Rodgers and ended up dropping out of the race himself. As many are aware, he is expected to have a prominent role in President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet.
Indeed, the most recent election between Trump and Kamala Harris was one of the most divisive in recent history. Both candidates had high-profile supporters, including NFL players.
And while Rodgers did not publicly endorse either candidate, he did not hold back from criticizing one current NBA legend who did.

In Rodgers’ most recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, he went off on a political tangent that criticized America’s support for Ukraine while also pushing a FEMA conspiracy theory.
He also talked about the NFL trade deadline, which was earlier this week and resulted in several high-profile trades around the league. His interview, though, occurred before the deadline, and he worked in a shot at one particular beloved athlete for his political views while offering his thoughts on it:
“If you don’t know what to do on trade deadline, just ask your favorite celebrity. My favorite is when the celebrity is bought and paid for by China.”

The shot, of course, was at Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. James had previously endorsed Harris for President, a candidate that Rodgers had not publicly said anything about.
Donald Trump Winning the Election May Affect Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets
Last time that Trump was the President of the United States, he named Jets owner Woody Johnson as the American Ambassador to the United Kingdom. This kept Johnson overseas for four years and meant that his brother, Christopher, ran the team.
There is belief that the President-elect will, once again, ask Johnson to be a part of his administration. If he does, that could drastically affect the near future of the Jets. Fans may recall that it was Christopher, not Woody, who hired former head coach Robert Saleh.
With Rodgers’ future with the team in doubt beyond this season, it is interesting to think that the owner who helped convince him to join New York in the first place may not be around to navigate his potential exit.
