The world of April Fools Day makes news a little tougher to navigate through but it seems like one Pro Bowler may be calling it a career. While it is important to look at the calendar on days like today to decipher what is real and what is not, we can only take athletes at their word and go with what they’re saying and give it a grain of salt.
Current free agent cornerback/safety Quandre Diggs posted on his Twitter page a picture of cleats hanging, a sign of calling it quits, with the caption “I break my own news”. While it is April Fools Day and this may just be a joke, this is considerably newsworthy in case this is just a coincidence. Diggs is a three-time Pro Bowler, making it from 2020-22 with the Seattle Seahawks. However, he was released by the team earlier this offseason.
He has played nine seasons with the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks and has recorded 580 total tackles, 24 interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), 56 pass deflections, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one sack throughout his career.
If this is Quandre Diggs officially calling it a career, congratulations. If this is just an elaborate April Fools Day joke, it was at least worth mentioning.
Where should the former Pro Bowler play if this is an April Fools Day joke?
Quandre Diggs is a three-time Pro Bowler who could still help a team’s secondary if he decides to continue playing and is just making an April Fools Day joke on Twitter. If he is joking around, there are teams still looking for secondary help that could be intrigued with his play.
One team that could use a Pro Bowler in their secondary would be the Green Bay Packers. They had some issues with cornerback Jaire Alexander and while things seemingly have blown over, there can never be too much help in the secondary. The team did sign safety Xavier McKinney during free agency but with a new defensive coordinator in Jeff Hafley, they may want some legitimate options to either pair up together or battle it out.
Another team that may be interested in Diggs would be the Miami Dolphins. Their defense got weaker this offseason but pairing him with guys like Jalen Ramsey, Jordan Poyer and Kendall Fuller would make an explosive back-four.
