The LSU Tigers now know what their 2024 schedule looks like. For a while now, we’ve known the team’s opponents, just not the order.
Last week, the schedules for each SEC team were released. 2024 will be the first year of Oklahoma and Texas in the SEC, making each SEC team’s schedule that much more difficult. Making matters worse for the Tigers, two of their four non-conference games are against teams who qualified for a bowl game in 2023- USC and UCLA.
The Tigers will kick the 2024 season off in Las Vegas against the USC Trojans on Sept. 1. The team then returns to Death Valley to take on Nicholls State before heading to Columbia to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in Week 3.
Check out the full 2024 schedule:
9/1 Southern Cal (Las Vegas)
9/7 Nicholls State
9/14 at South Carolina
9/21 UCLA
9/28 South Alabama
10/5 BYE
10/12 Ole Miss
10/19 at Arkansas
10/26 at Texas A&M
11/2 BYE
11/9 Alabama
11/16 at Florida
11/23 Vanderbilt
11/30 Oklahoma
Now, let’s dive into some takeaways from this schedule.
Week 1 will tell us a lot about the LSU Tigers
To start the 2024 season, the Tigers head to the desert to take on the USC Trojans in a neutral site game.
The Trojans will be without star quarterback Caleb Williams, but the team still has a ton of talent and has a top recruiting class for 2024. Both teams will have new QBs in 2024 and both should figure to be contenders in their respective conferences. The Trojans will want to start off in the win column as they embark on a new adventure in the Big Ten.
If the Tigers can get a win here, the season could be special. One has to assume the Tigers will take a lump or two in SEC play, so winning non-conference games will be crucial once again. The Tigers had a tough non-conference game in 2023 as well, and the team couldn’t get the win. Imagine how much different the Tigers’ season could’ve looked if they didn’t fall in the opener.
A couple of tough road games in October
The Tigers’ road schedule could have been much worse than it is in 2024. The Tigers will travel to South Carolina, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Florida. The team gets to play Oklahoma, Alabama, and Ole Miss at home, which is a huge break.
The October stretch of games will tell us a lot about this team. Right after facing the Rebels in Baton Rouge, the Tigers will travel to Fayetteville to take on the Razorbacks and then head to College Station to take on the Aggies. Fayetteville and College Station are not the easiest places to play, even if both teams are down at the time.
If the Tigers win back-to-back conference road games, you have to feel good about the team’s chances.
A couple of tough home games in the final stretch
As mentioned above, the Tigers should consider themselves lucky to get Alabama and Oklahoma at home in Death Valley. Nick Saban teams don’t lose often, especially not at home. The Sooners would love nothing more than to get a signature conference win in their first SEC season.
The Tigers hung tough against the Tide in Tuscaloosa this season before Jayden Daniels got injured. Expect this rematch to be another physical game where the crowd could make a difference. It’s also in the Tigers’ favor that they will have a bye week to prepare for the Tide.
The game against the Sooners is the regular season finale, so expect there to be playoff implications.
