It’s week 3 in fantasy football! Maybe you’ve started out hot and are looking to continue the momentum. Maybe you’ve started the dreaded 0-2 and are looking to dig yourself out of a hole. Whatever your situation, week 3 is a week you want to get your lineups right. Here are 3 players to start in fantasy football in week 3.
Chris Olave WR Saints
On Wednesday’s episode of the Gridiron Heroics podcast, I talked about opportunity being the key to fantasy football. It is impossible to one hundred percent predict what players will do on the field. The important thing is that the opportunity is there. Chris Olave has opportunity. In Sunday’s game he only had 5 receptions but he was targeted 13 times. The next closest was Michael Thomas with 9. The Saints have a lot of weapons with Thomas, Jarvis Landry and even Taysom Hill draws some attention. This is leaving Olave with favorable coverage and Jameis Winston is looking his way. Chris Olave is one of the players to start in fantasy in week 3.
TJ Hockenson TE Lions
Hockenson has been a slight disappointment so far. Believe me, I have him in one of my leagues and I look at the Lions scores expecting him to have something to show for it. Nothing so far. I’m not giving up though! The Lions offense looks great and Hockenson is a big part of it. Amon-Ra St. Brown and De’Andre Swift are getting a large portion of looks right now but defenses will start adjusting. The Lions also play the Vikings this week who just gave up a big receiving day to Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert. I riding with Hockenson this week.
David Montgomery RB Bears
There was not much that looked good for the Bears on Sunday night. David Montgomery was one of things that did look good. He gashed the Packers defense for 122 yards averaging 8.1 yards per carry. This week the Bears get the Texans. The Texans have had a better defense than expected but I still would feel good starting Montgomery here. My only concern is this. On Sunday night the Bears coaching staff ran with Montgomery on the first drive and scored a touchdown. It then looked like they forgot he was on the team until the 4th quarter. I am counting on the Bears watching the tape and thinking, “Hmm maybe we should give it to Montgomery more.” I hoping this is the case for owners of David Montgomery.
This week there are a lot of stay away matchups for me. Temper your expectations on the Dolphins as they play the juggernaut Buffalo Bills. The Packers-Bucs game looks to be a defensive struggle in the making. Jacksonville plays a much tougher Chargers defense. However, there is always value somewhere and the goal for fantasy managers is to find it. These are 3 players I would fell comfortable to start in fantasy in week 3.
