There is now less than a month until the 2024 NFL Draft. One position that seems to being going under the radar is the tight end position. It might not be the flashiest position in the draft but is still one of the most important positions in the draft. Here is what the top five prospects look like.
Top 5 Tight Ends
1. Brock Bowers – Georgia
Most people that follow the NFL have heard of Brock Bowers. He is a generational tight end talent from the University of Georgia. Bowers would have been the first tight end drafted in the past three seasons but was not draft-eligible. Bowers should be a lock to be a top 15 pick in the draft. The reason Bowers isn’t a lock for the top 10 is because of his size along with his run blocking skills. No matter what, one offense in the NFL will be getting an absolute animal in April.
2. Ja’Tavion Sanders – Texas
Now, he is no Brock Bowers, but Ja’Tavion Sanders is still a very good tight end. Similar to bowers, Sanders is more of a receiving threat than a run blocker. Sanders also has a similar build to Bowers at 6’4, 245 pounds. The reason Sanders is further down the board is that he didn’t put up crazy stats in his career at Texas. He looks like a lock for the second round and could go inside the top 50.
3. Cade Stover – Ohio State
Stover has solidified himself as the third tight end in the 2024 class. He is not a very flashy prospect but does what he does very well. Stover is able to block in the run game while also sneaking out and catching passes. In 2023, he caught 41 passes for 576 yards and five touchdowns. Stover looks to be a massive safety valve for an NFL quarterback. He should be a day-two pick and be a reliable starting tight end in the future.
4. Theo Johnson – Penn State
Johnson is known for his size and his contested catching. The reason that Johnson is fourth on the list is that he did not put up great stats at Penn State. In his four years at Penn State, he combined for less than 1,000 yards and only 12 touchdowns. Johnson is still a very good player and had a good showing at the NFL combine. Hopefully, Johnson can go to a team that can unlock his abilities and use him to his best potential. Johnson should be a day two and top 120 pick.
5. Ben Sinnott – Kansas State
Ben Sinnott was a very good weapon for the Kanas State wildcats in 2023. He posted 49 catches for 676 yards to go along with six touchdowns. Sinnott is a speedy route runner that is great with the ball in his hands. One thing that Sinnott is lacking is physicality. His strength and aggression is the reason he lands at number five on the list. Either way Sinnott is a good tight end and should be an early day three pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
Unlike most other positions, the top tight ends in this year’s draft are very spread out. The top five range from the top 15 to the fourth round.
