The 2024 NFL draft is absolutely stacked with talent all over the board. This year’s class is very offense heavy with lots of wide receivers, and quarterbacks, but maybe the best position group is the offensive tackle prospects.
2024 NFL tackle prospects
I wouldn’t say the class is top heavy, but there seems to be a large falloff after the first round and then again after the second If your team wants to get a starting caliber tackle you need to it early in the draft. Also instead of ranking these tackles prospects in a numbered list, this class seems to go more by tiers.
Teir 1: Joe Alt
Joe Alt is a massive human and measured into the combine at 6’9 and 320 lbs. In 2023, Alt gave up one sack in over 350 pass blocking reps. Alt was a three-year starter at Notre Dame and converted from tight end to offensive tackle. Joe Alt is in a tier of his own and would be a potential #1 overall pick if not for the incredible quarterbacks and receivers in the 2024 class.
Teir 2: Top 10 upside
There are three tackles in this tier and at least two of them should go top ten, with a chance of all three of them being selected. Olu Fashanu, Talise Fuaga, and JC Latham are all great prospects with very different skills sets and builds. Fashanu had an incredible 2022 and would have been the top tackle off the board but went back to Penn State and had a good year but not as impressive as 2022, but still should be one of the first tackles drafted.
On the other hand, Fuaga has been flying up boards during the offseason, after a very impressive senior bowl, Fuaga is a maller in the run game, but some think he could move to guard and become and all-pro caliber player. The Alabama OT JC Latham is an anchor right tackle, that acts like a wall. Latham seems to be one of the saftest prospects, as it looks like he has a high floor but low ceiling and will be plug in RT in any offense.
Teir 3: Middle-late first rounders
Troy Fautanu was a polarizing prospect where his size seemed like after playing LT for the Washington Huskies, he would have to move to guard. At the NFL combine, Fautanu measured smaller than most tackles, but with some of the longest arms, and it seems he can definitely play tackle at the next level.
Amarius Mims and Tyler Guyton are the final players in this tier. Mims and Guyton are debatably the most athletic tackles, but also the rawest. Mims only had eight starts in his college career but dominated when he had the chance. Tyler Guyton out of Oklahoma also had a great senior bowl, he looks to be a more athletic JC Latham, but can also make big mistakes.
These eight tackles should all be first round mocks with a chance one or two more sneak in. There is a large falloff after the prospects projected to go after the beginning-middle second round.
