It is the second week of March, which means we are less than seven weeks until the 2024 NFL draft. Here we will go through my mock draft of the first round of a 12-team dynasty super flex rookie drafts, with landing spots based on Ian McClintock’s latest mock draft.
Mock Draft Pick 1.01: Caleb Williams QB – Chicago Bears
With the reports of Justin Feilds being traded, it looks like the bears will select Williams and he will immediately thrown into the bears offense. The bears still have many questions on the offensive line, but the upside of Williams will still make him the first pick in rookie mock drafts.
1.02: Marvin Harrison Jr WR – Arizona Cardinals
Toted as a generational wide receiver prospect, it seems MHJ is already in the hall of fame. Pairing him up with Kyler Murray and guys like Rondale Moore and Trey Mcbride, Harrison will be the first option in the young cardinal’s offense. He will be a great pick for managers for years to come.
1.03: Drake Maye QB – Atlanta Falcons
Maye falls down the board a little in the draft and ends up in the hands of the Atlanta Falcons at number eight overall. Maye did not have the best stats at UNC, but is a huge playmaker and looks to fit the Josh Allen mold with his arm and rushing upside. Maye did not have many playmakers around him at North Carolina, but in Atlanta he will have guys like, Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and Bijan Robinson which will make him a high pick in fantasy.
1.04: Jayden Daniels QB – Washington Commanders
The 2023 Heisman winner Jayden Daniels goes number two overall to the Washington Commanders. Daniels was in an incredible offense at LSU with top prospects of Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. To going into a similar situation with the Commanders, with top targets of Terry Mclaurin and Jahan Dotson. With his high rushing upside, Daniels should be a top pick in super flex leagues.
1.05: Malik Nabers WR – Chicago Bears
In this situation the Bears trade back up to number five with the Los Angels Chargers and select their new weapon for Caleb Williams. If Marvin Harrison Jr was not in this draft Nabers would easily be the top WR off the board. Adding him to the offense with DJ Moore and Caleb Willams, there is no reason Nabers shouldn’t succeed in the NFL and in fantasy.
1.06: Rome Odunze WR – LA Chargers
After a trade back with the bears to go from five to nine to pick up some extra draft capital, Jim Harbaugh gets his new outside weapon in Rome Odunze. With only one wide receiver on roster for 2025, and the potential for Kenan Allen and Mike Williams to be cut due to the Chargers cap room situation. Odunze would start out as the third option but could work his way up to the first by the end of his rookie season. Getting Justin Herbert another weapon is very important to the Chargers future success.
1.07: Brock Bowers TE – New York Jets
It looks like the Jets are trying to go all in to win a super bowl within the next two years with Aaron Rodgers, so they go out and get him the top TE in the draft in Brock Bowers. Bowers has been a projected top pick for the last two years ago his incredible career at Georgia. With a lack of weapons for the Jets, Garret Wilson gets some taken off of his plate with the addition of Bowers. With a lack of top tier fantasy TEs and the success of Sam Laporta, Bowers could be pushed up high in rookie drafts.
1.08: Adonai Mitchell WR – Buffalo Bills
The Texas receiver goes #28 overall to the Bufalo Bills in this mock draft. It looks like Gabe Davis will be leaving in free agency leaving the Bills with a massive hole at the WR two spot. Micthell will be a great compliment to Stephon Diggs after his great combine, with the potential to take over the WR one spot in the upcoming years. This will make him a great fantasy receiver pairing him up with Josh Allen and the Bills offense.
1.09: Brian Thomas Jr WR – Cincinati Bengals
At number 18 the Cincinnati Bengals get Joe Burrow a new weapon in Brian Thomas Jr. Even though the Bengals take Thomas ten picks earlier than Mitchell, Thomas will have less value in dynasty as he come in as the number three option behind Jamarr Chase and Tee Higgins. Thomas is used to be being the number two option as he was behind Malik Nabers at LSU. He should be a great compliment for Jamarr Chase, pending on what happens next year with Tee Higgins.
1.10: Michael Penix QB – Seatle Seahawks
After his incredible year at Washington, the Seahawks select QB Michael Penix at number 16 overall. The only thing that is separating the top quarterbacks from Penix is his injury history. Even with four season ending injuries and looking uncomfortable under pressure, Penix is still a very good quarterback. The reason he goes above guys like Nix, and McCarthy is the fact that Penix land in a very good offense with great weapons around him. Looking like he will sit a year behind Geno Smith, Penix would be a great stash QB for the coming years in super flex leagues.
1.11: Xavier Worthy WR – Kansas City Chiefs
Xaiver Worthy just broke the 40-yard dash record at the 2024 NFL combine and gets selected with the last pick in the first round. With Marquess Valdes Scantling being released, the chiefs are missing that fast deep threat WR, and Worthy would fit this role perfectly. With Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice having a great rookie season, worthy would slot in as a third option for Patrick Mahomes and have good value in dynasty rookie drafts.
1.12: Keon Coleman WR – Baltimore Ravens
One of the most polarizing player in the 2024 NFL draft class, Keon Coleman is the definition of boom or bust. Coleman didn’t put up incredible stats in college but made incredible player and won almost every jump ball opportunity. Coleman would be a good fit in the Baltimore offence giving Lamar Jackson a jump ball receiver to compliment Zay Flowers. Risky but the boom potential make Coleman the final player selected in the first round of rookie drafts.
Honorable Mentions
Only two fantasy viable players get left out of the first round in this mock draft. Those two are Bo Nix and JJ McCarthy, both quarterbacks. The two were both drafted high in the first round but are not going into good situations.
JJ McCarthy goes number six overall to the New York Giants, meaning he will sit for at least a year along with being in a bad offense with little to no weapons.
Bo Nix goes number 12 overall to Denver Broncos, even though he would start immediately, he is on a broncos team that has lots of holes on the offense and could look to trade their top weapons, putting Nix in a tough situation.
