The Washington Commanders have an interesting wide receiver room entering the 2024 season. Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson will be the top two wide receivers on the roster entering training camp. Washington lost Curtis Samuel in free agency to the Buffalo Bills.
Luke McCaffrey and Dyami Brown will be two of the other wide receivers to watch on the roster for the 2024 season for the Washington Commanders. Washington is looking to be a more effective team on the offensive side of the football this season than they were a season ago. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels hopes to develop chemistry with his wide receivers right away.
Washington Commanders Encouraged To Restructure the Contract of Wide Receiver Terry McLaurin
At one point this offseason, there were rumors floating around about the possibility of the Commanders trading Terry McLaurin to a different NFL team like the Pittsburgh Steelers. McLaurin a season ago with the Washington Commanders caught 79 passes for 1,002 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 12.7 yards per reception. He was targeted 132 times.
McLaurin is the best player in the Commanders’ offense. The Bleacher Report Scouting Department gave some reasoning as to why they should restructure his contract by saying:
“While there isn’t a real need to create cap space right now, that could change if a trade opportunity arises or Washington does start locking up players. The Commanders could create some room by restructuring Terry McLaurin’s contract, which has a 2024 base salary of $15.2 million.”
McLaurin is 28 years old and he will be under contract for a couple of more seasons. The Washington Commanders hope they don’t have to trade him, but they may not even have to restructure his contract to begin with.
Washington would be a totally different offense if they did not have Terry McLaurin on the roster. The Commander’s offense will go through him this season. McLaurin is one of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL.
He is not a Top 10 wide receiver in the league, but he has been producing ever since he was a third-round selection from Ohio State in the 2019 NFL Draft. Terry McLaurin is going to have to stay healthy this season in order for the Commanders to be competitive. Without him in the offense, others would have to step up. Jahan Dotson would become the number-one receiving option in the offense.
