The Eagles have opened contract negotiations with Smith, according to Tim McManus of ESPN.
“The focus now shifts to one of their most important skill position players. The Eagles are making efforts behind the scenes to get something done with 25-year-old Smith. Contract talks are ongoing, sources familiar with negotiations said, and there’s general optimism that a deal will materialize in the near future.”
McManus also states that the Eagles don’t have an immediate deadline, and they have a history of signing players as soon as possible since the cost will increase if they wait for a big-name player from another team to sign a contract.

Smith played in 17 games in his second season, with 95 receptions on 136 targets for 1,196 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had 15 receptions on 22 targets for 197 yards and one touchdown in three playoff games.
Smith played in 16 games in his third season, with 81 receptions on 112 targets for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had eight receptions on 12 targets for 148 yards in the Wild Card.
