The father of NFL and Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley was allegedly pulled over by police and caught with a loaded pink gun that was in His Corvette. Alibay Barkley, Saquon’s father, was arrested while driving in the Bronx, and now he claims that he needed the weapon. He was quoted explaining that:
[He needed it “for safety because of who my son is,” new court documents reveal.
The 55 year old Alibay was pulled over for a covered license plate that the police could not read on Wednesday evening according to the complaint that was filed in the Bronx Criminal Court. What is interesting is that Barkley’s father claims that he needs the weapon for protection because he is Saquon’s father.
NFL Star Saquon Barkley’s Father Has Interesting Reason For Pink Gun
Following the police pulling over Barkley, the officer looked in the center console and found a pink firearm that was loaded with eight live bullets in the magazine. This all transpired back in 2018 but Barkley is still dealing with the legal ramifications from the ordeal.
Barkley claimed the gun is his wife’s and that they have it for protection. It makes sense that it would be his wife’s gun just based on the color, but you never know.
“That is my wife’s gun,” Barkley, who lives in Whitehall, Pennsylvania, allegedly told the cop.
“We keep it for safety because of who my son is and because we come back to the Bronx to visit a lot.”
The police had conducted the search because Barkley was driving with an obstructed license plate that also did not match the car that was registered. The investigators later found out that Alibay does not even have a New York State license or permit to carry a gun in the state according to the court documents.
Barkley’s father was slapped with five separate weapon possession chargers and the possession of ammunition. The police also charged him with using an unregistered car and covering the license plate while driving. Although, both of those charges did not show up in the court documents.
Barkley has other issues with the law and so the judge ordered a $5,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond.
Saquon has been open about his father’s issues in the past, and he respects his father for being honest about his issues with him over his life:
“My dad has been through a lot. He made that a big point when I was young: Don’t make the same mistakes he did in life,” Saquon, who played college football at Penn State, had told Lancaster Online.
“You have to respect him as a man. A lot of people can’t look their kids in the face and tell them the decisions that they made were awful and the mistakes they made were bad. That helped me.”
A representative the Eagles running back did not have any information to share about the arrest, and Alibay will appear in court next Tuesday.
