The Miami Dolphins have made some noise this offseason. They did this by giving WR Jaylen Waddle a massive contract extension.
This has left people wondering if the Dolphins will end up giving other key offensive players significant contract extensions. Right now, QB Tua Tagovailoa is in the final year of his rookie contract. If Miami does not give him a contract extension, one division rival could swoop in and be a perfect fit for this talented quarterback.
New York Jets Could Be a Great Fit

The Jets may be a shocking proposal to most football fans as a landing spot for Tagovailoa. However, when you take a closer look at this, it starts to make sense.
For starters, the Jets’ current quarterback situation is uncertain, to say the least. Aaron Rodgers is coming back in 2024 after suffering a torn Achilles injury just four snaps into the 2023 season. If he were to suffer another significant injury, it could be the end of his legendary NFL career.
Another reason why the Jets can be a good fit is their current wide receiver talent. They have one of the best young wide receivers in the NFL with Garrett Wilson. Plus, they acquired veteran WR Mike Williams earlier this offseason.
Tua Tagovailoa’s Contract Situation

Right now, Tagovailoa is entering the final year of his rookie contract. The Dolphins will pay him just over $23 million this season. Many would argue the Dolphins are getting a bargain considering his talent level.
We have seen top quarterbacks such as Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence get contract extensions that are worth over $50 million annually. Tagovailoa is expected to receive this type of annual value on his next contract. As a result, the Dolphins will have to think long and hard about whether to award him this type of money.
Miami Dolphins Moving Forward

For now, the Dolphins are focusing on 2024. There has been a heavy emphasis on the team’s 24-year playoff win drought by head coach Mike McDaniel this offseason. As a result, there is a lot of pressure on the Dolphins to take a step forward this season after getting eliminated in the wild card round last season. For Tagovailoa, it could end up being his audition for a max contract for other teams.
