Last Thursday, Marvin Harrison Jr was selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. He was selected fourth overall by the Arizona Cardinals. As a generational receiver prospect, there is a high expectation for Harrison Jr. Here is how his rookie season could look for Fantasy Football in 2024.
Marvin Harrison, Jr. Fantasy Football Outlook for 2024
Marvin Harrison Jr Colligate Career
Marvin Harrison Jr played all three years of his collegiate career at Ohio State. In his freshman year, Marvin was the fourth or fifth wide receiver on the Buckeye’s depth chart. This led him to only having 11 catches for 139 yards.
Harrison Jr broke out in his second season when he started as the wide receiver three then worked his way to wide receiver one by the end of the season. He put up over 1,200 receiving yards to go along with 14 touchdowns. Not being draft eligible Harrison returned to Ohio State in 2023 for his junior year. In 2023, Marvin had another incredible year with the Buckeyes. In 12 games he caught 67 passes for 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns.
After two incredible seasons with the Buckeyes, Marvin Harrison Jr declared for the 2024 NFL draft and was projected to be a top-10 selection. In the 2024 draft, the Arizona Cardinals selected Marvin Harrison Jr with the fourth overall pick to make him their new wide receiver one.
Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals started a mild rebuild last season with new head coach Johnathan Gannon. While still having Kyler Murray the Cardinals have started to revamp their defense and offensive line. Arizona had a massive need at receiver heading into the 2024 NFL draft. After losing Marquise Brown in free agency, the Cardinal’s top weapons were Trey McBride and Michael Wilson.
Marvin Harrison Jr has not played a single snap in the NFL but is already the Cardinal’s number-one wide receiver. He should be able to form an early connection with Kyler Murray and be the top receiver for Arizona in the future. Now the question is how good Harrison will be in his rookie season and how that will affect fantasy football.
Fantasy Outlook
With already being the wide receiver one in the Cardinal’s offense, Harrison should be primed for 1,000 receiving yards in his rookie season. It doesn’t seem likely that Marvin Harrison Jr will put up over 1,500 yards in his rookie season. Still, it is a possibility after looking at what Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase did in their rookie seasons.
For Fantasy Football Marvin Harrison Jr will be a very popular high-round pick. As of right now, Marvin Harrison Jr is projected to be a late second to early third-round pick in 12-team formats. FantasyPros.com has him as their 21st overall player and 13th wide receiver. The second round seems a little early to draft any rookie receiver in fantasy, but if Harrison Jr was available with the final pick of the second round, he would be my selection. Marvin Harrison Jr seems like a player who is impossible to bust and should be the next great rookie wide receiver.
