On Monday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Steelers added a third quarterback to their roster in two weeks. The signing came hours after head coach Mike Tomlin updated his stance on the starting quarterback situation in Pittsburgh.
Justin Fields and Russell Wilson will compete for the QB1 job
Following Justin Fields’ trade to the Steelers from the Chicago Bears, reports surfaced that Tomlin assured Russell Wilson he would be the QB1 to start the 2024 season. As previously discussed on GH, Tomlin said on Sunday at the annual league meeting that Fields would have a chance to compete for the starting job this season. Wilson will get the opportunity for most of the first team reps in OTAs this spring.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Kyle Allen to the roster
With a quarterback competition about to start in Pittsburgh this summer during training camp, the Steelers signed a third quarterback for the roster. According to Ari Meirov with the 33rd Team, the Steelers signed quarterback Kyle Allen and defensive lineman Dean Lowry.

Allen is QB3…for now
The Carolina Panthers signed Allen as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He has also played for the Washington Football Team, Houston Texans, and Buffalo Bills.
The Texas A&M product has thrown for 4,734 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions in his career. The 28-year-old will not likely be the starter in Week 1. However, Mason Rudolph started the 2023 season as QB3 in Pittsburgh and finished the season as QB1 by the playoffs.
