Concerning details have surfaced surrounding the arrest of Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs. Buggs has been the subject of a couple of Tuscaloosa Police investigations this offseason.
Buggs was arrested in May in a case of alleged animal cruelty. A representative for Buggs claimed the city of Tuscaloosa and the police department made the claims as they were trying to force Buggs to close his hookah lounge.
A Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman was arrested on Sunday
As previously discussed on GH, on Sunday, Buggs was arrested for an incident unrelated to the animal cruelty case:
Per Ryan Phillips with Tuscaloosa Patch, Buggs was arrested on an alleged burglary charge:
“Tuscaloosa County Jail records show former Tide defensive lineman and Kansas City Chief Isaiah Buggs was arrested for burglary on Sunday.
The charge is domestic violence second degree – burglary.”
Isaiah Buggs allegedly dragged a woman down some stairs
Lukas Weese with The Athletic provided an update on the case. Per court documents, Buggs allegedly dragged the mother of his child down the stairs of an apartment:
Buggs allegedly dragged a woman, who is the mother of his child, down the stairs of her apartment before getting arrested Sunday, according to Tuscaloosa (Ala.) district court documents filed Monday.
On June 16, Buggs allegedly entered the apartment of Yamya Johnson “unlawfully” and with the “intent to commit a crime,” according to the documents. According to police, Buggs broke into the apartment with a tire iron and dragged Johnson down the stairs, causing “scratch marks” on her wrists. Buggs then left the apartment, according to the court documents.
Police responded to a 911 call early Sunday morning and found Buggs in the parking lot of a nearby fast-food pizza joint:
Officers responded to a 911 call at 5:28 a.m. CT from the 1600 block of Mimosa Park Road, according to police records. As police turned onto Mimosa Park Road, they said they saw a white Cadillac belonging to Buggs in the parking lot of a nearby Little Caesars. Buggs was standing beside the vehicle before police arrested him, according to the deposition.
The Chiefs are aware of Buggs’ arrest but did not give further comment to The Athletic.
The Chiefs have several players facing legal issues
The Chiefs wrapped up their mandatory minicamp last week and are off for several weeks. Veteran players on the Chiefs do not report back for training camp until July 20. As previously discussed on GH, the Chiefs have several other players dealing with legal issues this offseason:
It’s been a busy offseason for headlines between law enforcement and the Chiefs. Several Chiefs players have been arrested since the team won the Super Bowl in February. Wanya Morris and offensive tackle Chukwuebuka Godrick were arrested for alleged marijuana possession. Rashee Rice was arrested following a high-speed crash on Easter weekend.
