The spring window of the transfer portal has been hectic for the Colorado football program. Last week, coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes lost double-digit players to the portal, including former five-star prospect Cormani McClain. The Buffs lost a wave of players to the portal, but none that posted team-leading numbers last fall. Meanwhile, the program welcomed a flurry of transfers to the team over the weekend, including two highly productive pass rushers and an offensive lineman.
On Monday, Colorado made another significant addition to its roster, bringing in high-end talent in the form of Ohio State Buckeyes transfer Dallan Hayden. The running back is set to compete for a spot in Colorado’s high-powered offense next fall. However, in response to Hayden’s arrival, running back Dylan Edwards has entered the transfer portal, as reported by On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett. Fellow rusher Sy’Veon Wilkerson also entered the portal on Tuesday.
Dylan Edwards: Leaving Colorado Football Program
The Colorado Buffaloes are still losing players to the transfer portal’s spring window, with running back Dylan Edwards entering on Tuesday. The 12th-ranked running back in the class of 2023, per 247Sports, Edwards picked Colorado football over Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Kansas State. The Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year played a significant role during his true freshman season, registering 76 rush attempts for 321 yards and one touchdown.

Edwards set records as a freshman with the Buffaloes last season. The Kansas native went nuclear in the season opener, rushing six times for 24 yards and a touchdown while snagging five passes for 135 yards and three scores. He tied the school record for receiving touchdowns in a game and became just the fourth true freshman in 27 years to register four touchdowns from scrimmage in his college debut. Edwards finished the season with 620 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns. The former four-star prospect will have plenty of suitors for the 2024 season.
Colorado Football: RB Depth Chart Heading Into Spring Game
The running back depth chart for the Colorado football program will have a new look in 2024. Dylan Edwards, the presumed lead back heading into next season after starting a handful of games in 2023, has left the program via the transfer portal. Former Jackson State 1,000-yard rusher Sy’Veon Wilkerson will join Edwards in the portal, leaving the team short-handed in the annual spring game.
Dallan Hayden, formerly of Ohio State, could lead the backfield next fall. In two seasons with Ohio State, he rushed for 663 yards and six touchdowns on 5.1 yards per attempt. Three-star recruit and class of 2024 standout Micah Welch could also earn a spot in the backfield. He heads to Colorado after rushing for 1,373 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior at Baldwin High School in Georgia. Meanwhile, Charlie Offerdahl has played well during spring practice. The former walk-on mainly played special teams in 2023.
