Coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado football team have made headlines this week after a wave of players entered the transfer portal during the spring window. Sanders downplayed the amount of talent leaving the program, believing the talent incoming outweighed the talent vacating. Among those players transferring out of Boulder, Colorado, was former five-star corner prospect Cormani McClain.
However, McClain’s departure did not occur without drama, with the talented defensive back joining a Twitter (also known as X) “spaces” chat and claiming Sanders and the Buffs drove him towards the transfer portal. McClain continued to take subtle shots at Colorado and coach Prime via social media this weekend when doing a Q&A on his YouTube channel.
Ex-Colorado Buffaloes CB Cormani McClain: Again Takes Shots at Former Program
Cormani McClain, through his YouTube channel, did a Q&A before going through a lower body workout as he remains in the transfer portal. McClain answered questions presented by fans, with many of his answers having something to do with his former program, the Colorado Buffaloes. McClain ended the Q&A by taking a shot at the Buffs and coach Deion Sanders.
I feel like I don’t want to just play for a place. I actually want to be involved with a great leading program that is going to develop players… I’m just ready to get to a new home and get to work,” said McClain on his YouTube channel. After just one season with the program, McClain left the Colorado football program earlier this month.
When asked about his plans at his next destination, the former five-star recruit said, “I’m just ready to bring the old version of me out and change the narrative of everyone’s thinking on my name. Be apart of a real and great program that’s going to impact me at my best ability.”
McClain’s dedication to his studies is as strong as his commitment to football. He underlined the importance of maintaining good grades, which he accomplished during his first year in college. He also emphasized his eagerness to excel at his new school.
Cormani McClain: Leaving Colorado Football After One Season
McClain spent just his true freshman season with the Colorado Buffaloes before portal hopping. In nine games, he posted 13 tackles and two passes defended. The Lakeland, Florida native landed with Colorado as a five-star prospect and the top corner prospect in 2023, according to 247Sports. The six-foot-two, 165-point defensive back also owned offers from the Miami Hurricanes, the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Arkansas Razorbacks, and the Auburn Tigers, among others.
McClain should have a sufficient number of suitors. He remains one of the top players in the transfer portal despite playing sparingly in his first collegiate season. Returning to his home state and playing for the Florida Gators could be in the cards for McClain.
