Even though the Baltimore Ravens were among the strongest teams in the NFL last season, their title hopes can still unravel if they don’t sign up key players to new extensions. Foremost among them, as it stands, is tight end Mark Andrews ahead of the 2024 season.
Andrews was born in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1995 and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of nine. Despite this, he went on to build himself into the NFL player he is today.

After a standout high school career, Andrews attended the University of Oklahoma, where he transitioned from wide receiver to tight end. He had a productive college career, culminating in receiving the John Mackey Award in 2017 as the best tight end in college football. Andrews then declared for the 2018 NFL Draft, where he was selected in the third round by the Baltimore Ravens.
In the NFL, Andrews has established himself as one of the league’s premier tight ends. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times (2019, 2021, 2022) and was named a First-Team All-Pro in 2021 after setting the Ravens’ single-season records for receptions and receiving yards by a tight end. Andrews has continued to excel in the NFL, solidifying his status as one of the top tight ends in the league.

The Ravens have several guys who are in line for a contract extension soon. In an article posted on Bleacher Report, Ryan Fowler detailed why Andrews is the most important guy to get an extension from Baltimore.
“Although the ascension of Isaiah Likely has been a positive, Mark Andrews will remain Baltimore’s top flex weapon as long as he’s in town.
Length of extension and monetary details become more and more of a question as players age, but locking in Andrews past his 30-year old season should remain a priority for GM Eric DeCosta.
Cap space is an issue in Baltimore in both the present, and future, but locking in Andrews would extend the Ravens’ offensive ceiling in the years to come,” Fowler wrote.
With quarterback Lamar Jackson leading the charge, the Ravens were able to finish last season with a record of 13 wins and four losses. They also fielded fourth place offense and a defense ranked first out of 32 teams in the NFL.

If Baltimore hopes to strengthen its Super Bowl bid in the coming season and the years ahead, giving Andrews an extension is necessary. Otherwise, the franchise will be wasting another year of Jackson’s prime in a very competitive AFC division.
