West Virginia transfer quarterback, J.T. Daniels named to the preseason Maxwell Award watchlist. The new West Virginia quarterback looks to bring his experience to Morgantown and command the starting job.
Daniels Transfers to WVU
JT Daniels has found his new home in Morgantown, despite a long and winding road in college football. First, Daniels would commit to play at USC and was the starter as a freshman. Injuries would derail his time as a Trojan, despite putting up great numbers. In two seasons in Southern Cal, Daniels would complete 241 passes, for 2,887 yards and 15 touchdowns. In addition to USC, Daniels would find his new home in Athens, Georgia via the transfer portal. Daniels would find himself in a similar position at Georgia, where he would likewise be named the starting QB for the Bulldogs. Undoubtedly, Daniels would again be hit with the injury bug that would see him lose his job in similar fashion. Above all, Daniels just needs to stay healthy, and the QB could see sustained success at West Virginia.
In an article by Bryan Clinton of Heartland College Sports, Neal Brown was quoted as saying. “J.T. has come in and been really humble in his approach. He knows he’s got to win the (quarterback) competition. There was nothing promised to him on the way in, but he’s done a great job connecting with our players. He’s done a great job getting his body where it needs to be. He’s in really good shape. He is confident. The key for him is to stay healthy.”
Others on Maxwell List
Joining Daniels on the Maxwell Award watchlist is former WVU QB Jarret Doege and Marshall
RB Ra’Sheen Ali. Doege, the former WVU signal caller transferred to Western Kentucky to take
over after the graduation of Bailey Zappe. Western Kentucky had a formidable passing attack
a year ago. Ali, the Marshall running back would go on to rush for 1,401 yards on 250 carries and added 23 scores. As a result, Ali would land himself as a semi-finalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award. Marshall and Ali will move over to the Sun Belt Conference in 2022 and look to continue their winning ways.
