Derrick Henry was on pace to have one of his best seasons yet, until he suffered a Jones fracture in his right foot after week 8. A Jones fracture occurs when the bottom portion of the fifth metatarsal in your foot breaks. Henry had 937 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns after only eight games. He was a front runner at winning the MVP before he suffered his season ending surgery.
How Did the Titans Play Without Henry?
Henry was forced to have surgery because of the type of injury he suffered, which took away his chance at returning in the regular season. Many people around the NFL had doubts that the Titans would even make the playoffs without Henry. That wasn’t the case though because the Titans went on to end the season on a 7-3 run. They finished 12-5 and secured the #1 seed in the AFC and had a first round bye. This gave Derrick Henry a glimpse of hope at returning for the playoffs.
Derrick Henry was cleared to return to the field for the Divisional Round against the Cincinnati Bengals. Henry did not look like his normal self at all in that game with 20 rushes and only 64 yards to show for. Henry showed he was not ready to compete at the highest level after being out for a couple months. Coming back off a foot surgery takes a lot of time and specifically game-like reps. The Titans lost their home playoff game to the Bengals off a last second field goal, which made the score 19-16. This loss and performance fired up Derrick Henry for next season.
What Will Derrick Henry Accomplish this Year?
The Tennessee Titans have the 21st ranked strength of schedule this year. They have a mix of difficult games and games that they should have no problem winning. With that being said, I think Derrick Henry will have a very impressive year. There’s nothing more motivating than coming back from a season ending injury. I believe Derrick Henry will bring out his full potential this year and get back to being the #1 rusher in the NFL. A couple games I have highlighted for Derrick Henry is against the Giants, Jaguars (twice), and Texans (twice). I could see Henry having monster games these weeks and will put him on the MVP watchlist.
Many people are skeptical about drafting Derrick Henry this year for Fantasy Football, but he should be a first rounder without a doubt. He has proven over the last three seasons that he is one of the best running backs in the NFL. He is by far the strongest/biggest running back in the league and with a team that revolves the offensive game plan around him, you know he will be getting plenty of touches this season
