According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs are releasing Josh Gordon per a source informed on the decision.
Josh Gordon Released by Kansas City Chiefs
With the Chiefs adding newcomers JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, rookie Skyy Moore and the improved play of Justin Watson, Gordon had an uphill battle to make the K.C. roster from the onset of training camp.
According to the Next Gen stats, the veteran generated only a single catch on five targets in 67 preseason snaps.
Josh Gordon joined the chiefs in 2021. He has played 12 games and earned five catches for 32 yards and a single touchdown.
It’s been nine years now since the wideout blasted onto the scene with an all-pro season in 2013 with the Cleveland Browns. Josh Gordon led the NFL with 1,646 yards.
His career has seemed to be derailed due to multiple season-long suspensions. He also missed the entire 2020 season following a suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
Josh Gordon has no doubt been a great player in the community in Kansas City and the club has nothing but amazing things to say about him.
Sadly, Tuesday’s release could be the end of Josh Gordon days in the NFL. There was some thought that Gordon would be able to become a more impactful player in 2022 following the Chiefs’ decision to trade Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, but KC heavily addressed the wideout position in free agency and the draft instead.
