The Tigers are coming off their biggest test of the season last week against NC State as they defeated the Wolfpack 30-20. It was Clemson’s most complete performance as a team, looking polished on both sides of the ball. It was a great opportunity for the Tigers to show that they can contend with a top ten team on a big stage. They certainly displayed that they have a legitimate defense, and that their offense has the ability to perform at its best when it matters most. After a win like that, most teams typically get too high on themselves and sometimes come out a little flat their next time out. Head coach Dabo Swinney has been around long enough and is too experienced of a coach to let this happen As the Tigers get ready to hit the road to Boston College this weekend, they’ll look to build off their strong performance and impose their will against a weaker ACC opponent.
Clemson’s Identity is Back
Since the start of last season, Clemson has been searching themselves to find out who they are as a team. Last year, the team relied too heavily on its defense to carry them to victories, and it was apparent that they knew it too. As we are now five games into this season, Clemson looks to be the complete football team that they have been in years past. They may not be as dominant as they have been in years past, but they are a team that has figured out how to get the most out of all of their players. It has all started with the play of quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who looks like a completely different player from last year. He has become more of a leader on offense, more confident passing the football, and it is something that the whole team is feeding off of.
Clemson has always been a team that has had a balanced attack on offense. They are no longer relying on one or two players to make the big plays for them, as DJ is doing a great job of orchestrating the Tiger offense. For a long time it felt like Dabo Swinney and the offensive staff were trying to figure out a way to make their offense come together. With the offensive struggles looking to be a thing of the past, Clemson Tigers are going to continue elevating their play as a whole. Although it has just been a little over a year since Clemson has looked like title contenders, that is far too long for the Clemson faithful to handle. It had been a long time since Clemson fans have seen their team play with that much confidence and passion in a game, and there seem to be no signs of this play going away anytime soon.
An Opportunity for a Statement
Clemson takes on Boston College on Saturday once again in the primetime time slot. Their second consecutive week being on display for the whole country to watch. While it is by no means an enticing matchup for most college football fans to watch, it is still an opportunity for Clemson to make a statement win. Boston College is coming off of a dramatic win as they kicked a game winning field goal in the final two minutes of the game. They will certainly be riding a high going into Saturday’s matchup. However, Clemson has a lot to feel good about themselves. Two strong wins against top 25 opponents, and a team that is playing with a lot of swagger and confidence. Coach Swinney knows that he has a team that is in the middle of playing their best football, and I think will show no mercy against Boston College. This could be a game where DJ Uiagalelei throws the ball all over the field and has a career game, along with the defense continuing to prove to be one of the best in the country. In a weekend packed with plenty of good football games, expect Clemson to make some noise in a big way with a dominant performance.
