The New Orleans Saints and wide receiver Michael Thomas seem to be in a situation where it looks like he played his last snaps with the team. The Saints restructured his contract last offseason to make it less of a burden if he was cut this offseason and it seems the two sides are getting close to the end of their partnership.
Thomas has shown the ability to be a Hall of Fame-worthy talent when he is healthy as his two All-Pros and three Pro Bowls showcase. But which teams would be the best fit for Michael Thomas entering his age 31 season?
Michael Thomas Team #1: New York Jets
The New York Jets had one of the worst offensive seasons in recent history, they are going to want to add some serious threats to help a returning Aaron Rodgers. Thomas would be an excellent player to pair with wide receiver Garrett Wilson to make the offense even better. It seems like the Las Vegas Raiders are not going to be moving Davante Adams so this would be a great pairing for a team that is in win-now mode with a definitive window to make noise.
Michael Thomas Team #2: Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs just won back-to-back Super Bowls and are going to be ready to be aggressive in the wide receiver market. The offense showed to take a step back statistically and with tight end Travis Kelce getting closer to the end, they may want to strengthen who is catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.
Thomas with Andy Reid’s scheming would be incredible to watch on a weekly basis as he had his most success with Drew Brees under center. Now if he can have Mahomes throwing him the football, this could be the career rejuvenation that Thomas needs after playing just 20 games in the last four seasons.
Michael Thomas Team #3: Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears have the most cap space in the entire sport after cutting safety Eddie Jackson and offensive guard Cody Whitehair so they can really get a lot of firepower on this team. Pairing Thomas with wide receiver DJ Moore could be great for whoever is the quarterback in Week 1. This also would give the Bears a player who plays more towards the line of scrimmage to complement Moore’s deep-ball ability.
