After missing nearly 2 seasons with an ankle injury, star wideout Michael Thomas is sitting out of practice this week with an apparent hamstring injury. This is devastating news as his return this season has been hyped up by every Saints fan via social media, showing how much the city of New Orleans is rooting for him.
The injury was not known by the public until he missed Sunday’s practice in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, which was open to the public. After the practice head coach Dennis Allen updated the media stating, “Michael Thomas has a little bit of a hamstring”.
With no timetable for his return or how severe the injury is, both him and Thomas have been optimistic in interviews on the former All-Pro wide receivers return to the field.
Michael Thomas’ impact in the Locker Room.
There is no doubt that Michael Thomas is one of if not “the” best receiver in the NFL since being drafted out of Ohio State University in 2016. He is also one of the vocal leaders in the locker room on a team who needs leadership following both Drew Brees’ and Sean Payton’s retirement.
This season is the beginning of a new future for New Orleans Saints football, being led by Dennis Allen and Jameis Winston, who is dealing with some leg injuries himself this pre-season. On top of Alvin Kamara’s legal issues, this team has a cloud around all its stars at the moment.
In week 1, they intend to take the field with a healthy Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara and Jameis Winston. The upside of this off-season news has been the emergence of the defense, and that too will be on display week 1, fans are hopeful the defense will be able to carry most of the load that this hobbled offense and new head coach will put on their shoulders.
Updates will be made as information comes out and Thomas’ hamstring is evaluated over the next couple of days.
