The analysis Roethlisberger gives is incredibly knowledgable and is exactly what I would expect from an 18 year veteran. He is on point saying “(Mitch) hasn’t done anything to lost the job”. Trubisky was signed to be the starter, its why the Steelers gave him a two year deal loaded with incentives to earn him more money for playing well. No one truly expected him to lose this job heading into training camp. While I agree with Roethlisberger, Pickett surely made this decision difficult.
There’s not much denial from fans when you say Trubisky was brought in to be the starter, just like there isn’t much when you say Pickett is the future. Pickett solidified that idea when he rose up the depth chart from 3rd string to possible starter. His potential as a franchise QB immediately after losing their last one, has Steeler fans calling for him to start.
Unfortunately, as exciting as it would be to have the 2022 first round pick start right away, it might not be time. It’ll benefit Pickett to sit back for a few games and learn from a guy like Trubisky.
