The Washington Commanders’ depth at the linebacker position was weak last season. Their starters were Jamin Davis and Cody Barton with Khaleke Hudson and David Mayo as their backups.
The Commanders understood the importance of having talent at the position by signing Bobby Wagner, Frankie Luvu, Anthony Pittman, and a former 4th-round pick.

According to Ben Standig, the Commanders signed Mykal Walker to a one-year deal, reuniting with Dan Quinn.
Mykal Walker spent his first three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons drafted Walker in the 4th round, 119th overall of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Walker played in 16 games, starting six in his rookie season and Quinn’s last season as head coach. He had 45 tackles, one for a loss, two QB hits, one pass deflection, one forced fumble, and a 74.0 PFF Grade in 385 (36%) defensive snaps.
Walker played in 17 games, starting twice in his second season, and had 35 tackles, one QB hit, one interception, one pick-six, four pass deflections, one fumble recovery, and a 71.3 PFF Grade in 193 (17%) defensive snaps.
Walker played 16 games, starting 12 in his third season, and had 107 tackles, four for a loss, one QB hit, one sack, two interceptions, six pass deflections, and a 58.7 PFF Grade in 769 (72%) defensive snaps.
The Falcons waived Walker on August 13, 2023.
After bouncing around with two other teams in 2023, Mykal Walker got significant playing time with the Pittsburgh Steelers because of injuries
The Chicago Bears claimed Walker off waivers on August 14, but the team waived him on August 29.
The Las Vegas Raiders signed Walker to the practice squad on September 19, but the team released him on October 24.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Walker to the practice squad on October 30 and the team signed him to the active roster on November 18 because Cole Holcomb tore his ACL in Week 9 and Kwon Alexander tore his Achilles in Week 10.
Walker eventually took over as the starting linebacker near the end of the season. He played in eight games, starting five, and had 33 tackles, two for a loss, one interception, two pass deflections, and a 52.9 PFF Grade in 294 (61%) defensive snaps. He also had three tackles in the Wild Card.

The Commanders’ linebacker position is in better shape now compared to 2023. Their projected starters are Bobby Wagner, Frankie Luvu, and Jamin Davis and their backups are Anthony Pittman and Mykal Walker.
The linebacker position is no longer a weakness.
