The Washington Commanders own the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and one of the names they are eyeing on is LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels. There is no doubt that Washington will hold all of the cards to the 2024 NFL Draft after the Chicago Bears select quarterback Caleb Williams as the number one overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As of Tuesday evening, a lot of sportsbooks have the Commanders as the favorite to draft Jayden Daniels as the number two overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. FanDuel, ESPN, Fanatics, and BOL have those odds at -300 for that selection. Caesars Sportsbook has Washington at -280 odds and DraftKings and BET MGM at -275 odds for Washington to select Daniels second overall.
With the sportsbooks going that for him, it felt like this was going to be the route that the Commanders were going to go all along. So it sounds like they are going with him rather than going with Drake Maye from North Carolina or J.J. McCarthy from Michigan.
The Washington Commanders Taking Jayden Daniels Number Two Overall In the 2024 NFL Draft Would Not Be a Surprise At This Point
At this point when next Thursday rolls around, a lot of people are going to expect Daniels to be in a Commanders uniform. If anyone else puts on that uniform other than him with that pick, it would come as a surprise.
It would appear as if J.J. McCarthy or Drake Maye will slip in this draft assuming Washington takes Daniels second overall. Jayden Daniels won the Heisman Trophy this past season at LSU. He completed 72.2% of his passes for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and four interceptions.
He also rushed for 1,134 yards on 135 carries and 10 touchdowns, along with averaging 8.4 yards per carry. Daniels will need to be smart about running with the football at the next level because of the talented defensive players. It appears as if he will fit Kliff Kingsbury’s system better compared to McCarthy and Maye.
For the last month, it appears as if this was going to be the trend anyway in the 2024 NFL Draft with the first two selections. Washington at one point liked J.J. McCarthy and Drake Maye, but it appears as if the sportsbooks are telling the truth and already know what the Commanders are going to do. When Vegas has odds like that, they usually know what they are talking about.
