The Washington Commanders own the second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and Jayden Daniels will very well be on the board by the time Washington picks. With Caleb Williams expected to go first to the Chicago Bears, a lot of people are wondering who the Commanders will select in that spot.
It is no stranger that Washington needs to find its next franchise quarterback after moving off Sam Howell and trading him to the Seattle Seahawks earlier this offseason. The Commanders have a new head coach Dan Quinn, a new general manager with Adam Peters, and a new offensive coordinator with Kliff Kingsbury.
Daniels last season won the Heisman Trophy last season. He completed 72.2% of his passes for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and four touchdowns. Jayden Daniels also rushed for 1,134 yards on 135 carries and 10 touchdowns, along with averaging 8.4 yards per rush this past season.
Sports Illustrated Albert Breer Believes That the Washington Commanders Are Leaning Towards Taking Jayden Daniels Towards the Second Pick In the 2024 NFL Draft
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated told USA Today Sports about the Commanders possibly drafting Daniels second overall by saying:
“The more I’ve started to ask around, the more it seems like Jayden Daniels is probably the leader in the clubhouse to be a Commander. It does match up with what Kliff Kingsbury’s looked for in his quarterbacks over the years.”
Kingsbury did coach Caleb Williams in college last year when he was the offensive coordinator for the USC Trojans. Williams is also a Washington D.C. native but he won’t be available most likely at that selection for the Washington Commanders.
Washington possibly drafting Daniels over Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy is going to set up drama for the third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Jayden Daniels has been climbing up draft boards throughout the college football season. He is 23 years old. One of the questions about Daniels being drafted high in the draft is his body frame. Other than that, he has the talent to succeed in the NFL.
