The Washington Commanders are wasting no time looking forward to 2024. Earlier this morning, it was announced that the Commanders fired head coach Ron Rivera after four seasons. Now, there are already three members of other coaching staffs currently getting ready for playoff games linked as possible replacements.
Washington Commanders Request Interviews With Three Coordinators in Playoffs
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Washington Commanders have put in requests to interview two notable coordinators. Both of them are currently members of the Detroit Lions coaching staff. These two are offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn respectively.
Then, there was one other request that came out shortly after that. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Commanders also requested to interview Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.
Making the Case
So, what is the case for each of these coordinators? Well, the Lions’ offense has put up numbers under OC Ben Johnson. Detroit ranks third in total yards per game (394.8) and fifth in points per game (27.1).
However, neither defense has been notable this season. Neither the Rams nor the Lions rank in the top half of the league in total yards allowed per game or total points allowed per game. However, Morris does have some ties to Washington. Back in 2013, he was their defensive backs coach.
Possible Audition
These three coordinators will get an opportunity to have a head-to-head audition for the job. That is because the Rams and the Lions are playing each other in the first round of the playoffs. For these coordinators, it can be a chance to secure their next job.
