Gibson missed last week’s contest against the New York Giants with a toe injury. He did not practice in preparation for Week 11 before becoming inactive.
Washington Commanders RB Antonio Gibson: Playing Second Fiddle in 2023
Antonio Gibson averages 13.7 rushing yards per game this season, easily his new career low. He has taken 30 attempts for 137 yards and no scores. However, he remains a viable option in the passing game, with 30 receptions for 269 yards and two scores in ten games.
A third-round selection in the 2020 NFL draft, Gibson ran for 4.7 yards per rush attempt as a rookie while scoring 11 touchdowns. He rushed for a career-best 1,037 yards in 2021 but struggled with consistency the following season. The West Virginia product scampered for 546 yards in 2022 while being out-touched by rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr.
Washington Commanders: Improved Rushing Attack in 2023
The Commanders have averaged 4.6 rushing yards per attempt this season, the sixth-best mark in the league. Second-year NFL vet Brian Robinson Jr. leads the group with 558 rushing yards and five scores in 11 games. Quarterback Sam Howell has also used his legs to his advantage, rushing 34 times for 209 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Antonio Gibson and rookie running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. sit just over 100 yards rushing this season. Washington will visit a stout Dallas Cowboys defense on Thursday, but they are susceptible to the ground game. They allow 4.1 rushing yards per attempt, placing them just outside the top 15 in that department.
