The Washington Commanders could very well trade the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Washington would have its choice of quarterbacks to choose from, but general manager Adam Peters may want to trade down and accumulate more picks.
The Commanders are very well in a rebuild and this is not possibly a one-year fix. There are a few teams that can trade up Washington for that spot. Which teams can trade up to that pick?
New England Patriots Could Be the Most Likely Team That Trades Up With the Washington Commanders
The New England Patriots own the third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Like Washington, New England needs to draft its future quarterback. This trade would make the most sense for the Washington Commanders because it would be only one spot back and they would get extra picks in a trade from New England.
The Commanders don’t want to drop too far down if they want to take one of the top quarterbacks. The New England Patriots traded Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars. New England doesn’t seem interested in playing Bailey Zappe next season.
New York Giants
Would the Commanders do a trade with NFC East rivals New York Giants? The Giants own the sixth selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. Washington would be able to get a great wide receiver with this selection even if they weren’t able to get a quarterback.
There is a chance that Marvin Harrison Jr. or Malik Nabers slightly slip in this draft because of the quarterbacks potentially being selected high. The New York Giants need a quarterback, but no one knows what they will want to do.
Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings own two first-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. Minnesota has the 11th and 23rd overall picks. Would the Washington Commanders want to trade down that far? The Washington Commanders could be doing serious damage to themselves if they went that route because the quarterbacks will be gone by then unless Bo Nix is still available.
Minnesota reportedly wants Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy and this is why the Vikings have that second first-round selection. The Vikings have Sam Darnold on its roster at quarterback and want to upgrade for the future.
