In what seems like the Utah Utes’ last chance at saving their hopes for a winning season, they’re forced to start 4th string quarterback, Luke Bottari, when they play Colorado. With perennial medical redshirt Cam Rising out and with Isaac Wilson struggling this season, the Utes started Brandon Rose at quarterback against BYU last week. The game ended with Brandon Rose looking down the barrel of season ending surgery after he tore his Lisfranc ligament. Incredibly, Rose played through the pain despite the report from Rose’s mother that doctors “couldn’t believe he he was really even able to walk”.
Rose’s injury left Isaac Wilson to start, once again. Within the last few days, reports started to emerge that Wilson would be missing the game against Colorado because of mono. Official reports have listed his status as out for undisclosed reasons.
UPDATE: Isaac Wilson did indeed get the start and played reasonably well against Colorado.
Utah Utes’ Depth Being Tested
This season has been disastrous for the Utah, with five straight losses, a fan being arrested, and their AD being fined. To add insult to injury (Utah has certainly experienced both this season), the Utes have been losing key players left and right. First it was Cam Rising but that was just the beginning. X user @UtahCFBstats said it well:
Utah Football Stats and Analysis (@UtahCFBstats)
Cam Rising (QB1) – Done for the year
Money Parks (WR1) – Done for the year
Mycah Pittman (WR3) – Done for the year
Brant Kuithe (TE1) – Done for the year
Brandon Rose (QB2) – Done for the year
Levani Damuni (LB2) – Done for the year
And we still have 3 games left…
Now, running back Jaylon Glover has announced he will sit out the remainder of the season in order to maintain redshirt eligibility prior to entering the transfer portal. Coach Kyle Whittingham has been incredibly successful in his time with Utah, but going up against the 7-2 Colorado Buffs makes it feel a bit like this is a lost season for Utah.
