Veteran seventh-year quarterback for the Utah Utes, Cam Rising, is reported to have the potential to earn more than $1.5 million in NIL money from Utes donors by the end of the season, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Rising’s minimum earnings for the 2024 season will be $500,000, but he could make more than $1.5 million. Longtime Utah booster T.J. England said in the Salt Lake Tribune article that he is pleased that the Utes are able to compete with the large pools of NIL funds surrounding college football.
“I was initially concerned whether we’d be able to compete with some of the major markets and universities for player interest,” England said. “And so far, it appears like we’ve been able to compete and I hope it can continue that way. But we certainly need supporters.”
The Ohio State Buckeyes, who have made a splash with returning players and transfer portal players this offseason, are reported to have spent anywhere from $10 million to $13 million in NIL money. The Texas Longhorns have reportedly raised around $15 million a year for all their athletes.
QBs like Cam Rising of the Utah Utes are costing just how much Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule said they would

Shortly after the Nebraska Cornhuskers‘ season was cut short after not reaching a bowl game once again, head coach Matt Rhule exclaimed just how much a top-tier transfer portal quarterback would cost. Rhule said they could be anywhere from $1 million to $2 million, depend on the level of the quarterback.

This level of NIL money could not only be used to find a starting QB, but it could be necessary to keep one on the bench. One of the most lucrative NIL deals in the country belongs to Texas quarterback Arch Manning. According to On3, Manning has an NIL valuation of $2.9 million, despite being the third-string QB for the Longhorns this season.
The starting quarterback for the Longhorns this past season, Quinn Ewers, had an NIL valuation of $1.2 million, according to On3. Schools aren’t just competing with other schools, but they are also competing with the NFL.
The first-overall pick of the most recent NFL draft, Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, signed a four-year $37.9 million contract. The last pick of the second round, Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr., signed a four-year $9.6 million dollar contract.
Utah Utes QB Cam Rising is a proven commodity

Despite the injury issues that have allowed Rising to play in his seventh year, he is a proven commodity for the Utes. Rising was a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien and Maxwell Awards in 2022. Rising has also been named to the Pac-12 All-Conference first-team in 2021, with an honorable mention in 2022.
Rising helped the Utes to a Pac-12 championship in 2022 in a game where he was named the MVP of the Pac-12 Championship game. Rising played a huge part in one of the most memorable games in recent Utah memory, the 2021 Rose Bowl, before getting injured late in the game.

Rising has over 5,500 yards passing in his career with a 46 to 14 touchdown to interception ratio. Rising, who is also a prolific runner, has just under 1,000 yards rushing in his career with 12 rushing touchdowns. Rising is a proven winner with an 18-6 record at Utah, which is good for fifth all-time in the program’s history.
