Following a 16-13 loss to the Chicago Bears, typically stone-faced Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young went on a hostile curse-filled rant.
In an article from ESPN, running back Miles Sanders explained the intensity of the rant, and what it told the rest of the locker room about the rookie quarterback.
“A lot of F-bombs,” running back Miles Sanders recalled. “A lot of F-bombs. He just showed the passion … just showed that he’s human. He’s not just putting on a front and trying to be cool, calm and collected all the time, and [he] let us know this stuff mattered to him.”
In the same article, tight end Tommy Tremble explained how the rant made the team work harder for Young. The Panthers only notched one more win the rest of the year, despite the change in mentality Tremble cites.
“That was a big turning point in our locker room,” tight end Tommy Tremble said. “We could see how much he loved the game and how much he wanted to win. Seeing that, it made you just want to put in overtime trying to achieve that goal.
“That’s what we’ll take forward from his season.”
Rookie Carolina Panthers quarterback was thrown into the fire

Rookie Carolina Panthers quarterback was selected first overall in the 2023 NFL draft. Young was thrown into a starting position for a franchise that has struggled immensely over the last few years.
This is the same organization that had playoff-winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield on the scout team playing defensive line just last year.
Baker Mayfield had his hand in the dirt playing scout team D-line last year now he’s out here winning a playoff game LMAO. The Panthers are hilarious. pic.twitter.com/bkQbrnR2IL

Young was forced to be a starter with little help surrounding him. Their leading receiver by a long shot was a 33-year-old Adam Thielen, who amassed just over 1,000 yards in his 10th NFL season. Thielen started strong, but his age began to show as he could not keep pace later in the season.
Thielen had over 100 yards in three of his first six games this season. He did not reach 100 yards after that stretch, and he only had more than 75 once. The Panthers next leading receiver was D.J. Chark, who had just 525 yards receiving this season.

Young did not get much help from his offensive line either. They allowed 65 sacks this season, 62 of which were with Young at the helm. This was good for the second-most sacks allowed by a team this season. No team in the top-10 in sacks allowed made it to the playoffs.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young will always be compared to Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young was selected first overall in the 2023 NFL draft. Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud was selected second overall. This will forever link the two quarterbacks as they navigate their careers.
Unfortunately for Young, Stroud has emerged as one of the best rookie quarterbacks in NFL history. Stroud had 4,108 yards passing, which allowed him to become just the fifth rookie quarterback to eclipse the 4,000-yard mark.
Stroud has also led his team to a playoff victory by a wide margin. While Young did manage to beat Stroud’s Texans 15-13 in the regular season, Stroud has emerged as what is widely considered to be the best draft pick of the 2023 NFL draft.
CJ Stroud has had a really good first season🔥

When comparing the two quarterbacks, it must be noted that Stroud walked into a completely different situation. Stroud has emerging stars surrounding him at the wide receiver position in Nico Collins, Tank Dell and Noah Brown.
Stroud also has one of the best offensive lineman in football protecting his blindside in left tackle Laremy Tunsil.
Both quarterbacks had rookie head coaches, but former Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich was fired before the season was over. Meanwhile, Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans has proven to be one of the best first-year coaches in recent memory.

Young and Stroud will be tied together for the rest of their careers, but Young’s ability to catch up with Stroud’s reputation heavily relies on who the Carolina Panthers choose to hire as their next head coach.
